Channapatna is one of the fantastic toy towns which has a history since the 18th century. About 60kms southwest of Bangalore, is a small town named Channapatna which in local language is called the Toy-Town. It is said that 200years back Tipu Sultan of Mysore had taught the local artisans the art of toy making by inviting Persian artisans. The toys were initially made using ivory wood which was turned, machined and finished traditionally and then colored using the vegetable colors. Ever since then, the people here have worshipped their job and treated the work-shed as a temple. This is why they would never wear footwear inside the work-shed which causes cuts and wounds on their feet. They do not even use the safety goggles to maintain the fineness in the work quality.
